June 1: Andean Tribute to the Earth
The beginning of the month is marked by a powerful and deeply symbolic ritual: the offering to Pachamama. This ceremony, held in sacred places like Sacsayhuamán, brings together Andean priests, musicians, dancers, and locals who pay homage to Mother Earth. Coca leaves, chicha, corn, flowers, and other natural elements are offered as a sign of gratitude for life and abundance.
June 3: Opening of the celebrations in honor of San Cristóbal
San Cristóbal is one of the most important saints of colonial Cusco, and his feast officially marks the start of the month’s religious celebrations. His imposing image is carried from his temple to the Plaza Mayor in a colorful procession filled with music and devotion.
June 6: Procession in honor of San Pedro
This day is celebrated with special devotion in some traditional neighborhoods. San Pedro is considered a spiritual guardian, and his image is carried in procession accompanied by faithful followers, music bands, and carpets made of flowers, dyed sawdust, and aromatic leaves.
June 11: Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
A Catholic festivity that has taken strong root in Cusco. On this date, solemn masses, processions, and vigils are organized. Churches like La Merced, San Pedro, or the Church of the Company welcome the faithful who pray for health, peace, and family unity.
June 13: Mass and events for San Antonio
San Antonio is the saint of lovers and miracles. His day is celebrated with a morning mass, blessing of personal items, and symbolic acts to find a partner or give thanks for granted favors.
June 15: Day of Andean Song
This is a very special date as it pays tribute to the music that gives soul to Cusco. Performances of huaynos, mulizas, yaravíes, and carnivals are held in theaters, plazas, and schools. Local composers and musicians are also honored.
June 16: Chamber of Commerce – Handicraft Fair
This fair, organized by the Chamber of Commerce, brings together the best artisans of the region. It is a cultural showcase where you can find textiles, silverware, paintings, ceramics, musical instruments, and more.
June 19: Solemn Mass for Corpus Christi
One of Cusco’s largest and most visual religious celebrations. Fifteen images of saints and virgins are carried from their churches to gather at Cusco Cathedral. Each parish competes with their best garments, music, and dances.
June 24: Inti Raymi – Festival of the Sun
The most anticipated event of the year. Inti Raymi is a theatrical, ceremonial, and symbolic representation of the great Inca festival dedicated to the Sun. Thousands of people gather early to witness the ceremony at three venues: Qoricancha, Plaza de Armas, and Sacsayhuamán.
June 29: Procession of San Pedro and San Pablo
To close the jubilee month, the festivity of San Pedro and San Pablo is celebrated. Masses, parades, dance contests, and food fairs are organized. It is the grand finale to a month full of faith, color, and tradition.
