Tour Details

On this Maras Moray and Salt Mines (Full Day) Tour, we will explore the town of Maras and the agricultural experimentation terraces of Moray. It is believed that in this area, the Incas created their own microclimate for adapting various plants, flowers, and other products from different parts of the Inca Empire.
Later, we will visit the Salt Mines, located just below Maras. These mines are still in operation and worked daily by local farmers.

Meeting Point

We begin with hotel pick-up in Cusco and head to the province of Urubamba, passing through unique Andean landscapes that mark the start of this experience.

Maras

We arrive at the charming town of Maras, located at 3,300 m.a.s.l. and 52 km from Cusco. Here, we will learn about its history and tradition before continuing to its famous salt mines.

Moray

Just 7 km from Maras, we explore this archaeological site with unique circular terraces. Used as an agricultural laboratory by the Incas, it is also believed to hold an energetic and spiritual meaning as a magnetic center of Pachamama.

Maras Salt Mines

We visit the impressive salt mines made up of more than 3,000 pools, exploited since pre-Hispanic times. We will discover the traditional method of extracting salt through the natural evaporation of salty water.

Return

Return to Cusco city, ending a journey that combines history, living culture, and breathtaking landscapes.

What’s the best time to do this tour?
The Maras, Moray, and Salt Mines tour can be done all year round. The dry season (May to September) offers clear skies and spectacular views, while in the rainy season (December to March) the landscape becomes greener and more vibrant.

It is advisable to book a few days in advance to secure your spot, especially during high season (June to August). However, we have daily departures and wide availability in low season.

The tour is not canceled due to rain. We recommend bringing a rain poncho and comfortable shoes with good grip. The rain can add a special touch to the Andean landscapes and photos.

No, entrance fees to Moray and the Maras Salt Mines are paid separately. Our team will assist you in purchasing them on the day of the tour.
Is the Tourist Ticket required?
Yes, to enter Moray you need the Partial Tourist Ticket or the General Ticket. The Maras Salt Mines have an independent entrance fee.
