Tour Details
The South Valley Tour (Half Day) will take you to the most iconic sites of this circuit. It stands out for its mix of impressive natural landscapes, the lakes of Urcos and Huacarpay, Inca architecture at Tipón, and pre-Inca Wari architecture at Pikillacta.
This is an excellent opportunity to explore an important part of Cusco, featuring charming lakes and picturesque towns. It’s also the ideal place to enjoy Peru’s best traditional dishes and the emblematic Chicha beverage.
Tipón: This ancient Inca settlement is located 23 km southeast of the city of Cusco.
It stands out for its impressive hydraulic works, such as fountains and canals, designed for water distribution across each level of its terraces. Its still-functional engineering is truly admirable.
Pikillacta: Located southeast of Cusco, about 30 km from the city, this site spans 3441 hectares, covering areas of the districts of Oropesa, Lucre, and Andahuaylillas in the province of Quispicanchis.
Pikillacta is not just a group of architectural complexes, but also a testimony to the landscape, history, and mystery of the Wari culture. It’s enriched by the legend of Princess Sumak T’ika, which adds even more value to its pre-Inca legacy.
As part of the tour, we will also visit the Pikillacta site museum.
Andahuaylillas: Located 35 km southeast of the city of Cusco, on the paved road that leads to the Puno region.
In ancient times, this town was known as Antawaylla (anta: cooper, waylla: meadow), meaning “copper meadow.”
The “Sistine Chapel of America”: The San Pedro Church of Andahuaylillas is the main attraction here. Its interior houses an extraordinary collection of Cusco school paintings, as well as stunning 16th and 17th-century murals, gilded Churrigueresque baroque altarpieces, and the famous pentalingual door.
Main Square of Andahuaylillas: This wide plaza is adorned with lush coral trees (pisonay) and palm trees, making it one of the most charming squares in the region.
