Itinerary

Hotel pickup around 6:00 a.m. to head to the Poroy or Ollantaytambo train station, depending on availability. Train ride to Km 104, the starting point of the trek. Visit to the Chachabamba archaeological complex (7,054 ft) and an approximately 3-hour ascent to Wiñaywayna, an impressive collection of agricultural terraces, temples, and urban sectors. Next, we will head to Intipunku, the “Sun Gate,” hiking for about 1 hour along stone paths with panoramic views. From this point, you will get your first view of the majestic city of Machu Picchu. Afterward, we will descend toward the town of Aguas Calientes to spend the night. Estimated hiking time: 6 to 7 hours. Maximum altitude: 8,924 ft (Intipunku). Accommodations: Previously selected hotel.

Early departure to ascend to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and witness the sunrise before the large crowds arrive. Guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours through the main temples and sectors. Option to hike Huayna Picchu (requires advance reservation) for panoramic views and a visit to the Temple of the Moon and the Inca Bridge. Descent to the town of Aguas Calientes to take the return train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus transfer to Cusco. Estimated visit time: 5 to 6 hours (including the guided tour and free time).
