Cusco and Machu Picchu tour 4 days and 3 nights: we will visit the most outstanding places in the city of Cusco and the Sacred Valley before heading by tourist train to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Airport Pick-up – Cusco City Tour

After your trip and landing in Cusco, our staff will be waiting with a sign bearing your name at the airport or bus terminal. Transfer to your hotel and information for your stay. If you take the Qoricancha circuit, pick-up will be at 12:45 p.m.. Visit the following tourist sites:
  • Qoricancha: (Religious Temple) Main point of the Inca Empire.
  • Sacsayhuaman: (Temple of Lightning) Impressive stonework, some blocks up to 120 tons.
  • Qenqo: (Labyrinth) Religious center dedicated to the worship of the Earth.
  • Puca Pucara: (Reddish Place) Military control center.
  • Tambomachay: (Temple of Water) Center for the worship of water.
End time: Approximately 7:00 p.m.

Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas – Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu)

Pick-up between 06:30 a.m. and 07:00 a.m. from your hotel. Visit Chinchero and the royal estate of Inca Túpac Yupanqui, its square, and colonial temple. Then tour Moray (Inca agricultural experimentation center) and the Maras Salt Mines. Buffet lunch in Urubamba. Visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo, with its temples, canals, and Inca walls. Transfer to the train station to board toward Machu Picchu Town and overnight.

Day 3: Machu Picchu

Pick-up at the coordinated meeting point. Then we will board the bus to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Entry and guided tour of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Free time to explore. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. In the afternoon, train back to Ollantaytambo (arrive 30 minutes early). Transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco.

Day 4: Cusco – Farewell

Free morning to rest or for personal activities. Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Lima.

What fitness level do I need?
This tour is of easy to moderate difficulty. It includes cultural tours in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu with short walks. High physical endurance is not required, but acclimatization to altitude is recommended.
What is the best time to go?
It can be done all year round. The dry season (May–September) offers better conditions for walks and clear skies. The rainy season (December–March) presents greener landscapes, but caution is recommended.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Entrance tickets to Machu Picchu, train tickets, and entries to archaeological sites are limited. It is recommended to book 3–4 weeks in advance and longer in high season (June–August).
What if it rains during the tour?
The tour is not canceled due to rain. It is recommended to bring a rain poncho or windbreaker/rain jacket and protect your belongings from moisture.
Are the tickets included?
Yes, the package includes the Machu Picchu entrance ticket, train and bus transportation, and tickets to all sites mentioned in the itinerary.
Can I rent equipment?
Specialized equipment is not necessary for this tour, although you may bring trekking poles for extra comfort in Machu Picchu or on sections with stairs.
What about my luggage?
Carry only a small backpack with what you need each day. Main luggage can remain at your hotel in Cusco or in storage at your accommodation in Aguas Calientes.
Are there water, bathrooms, and signal along the route?
In Aguas Calientes and at the Machu Picchu entrance there are restrooms (additional cost). Inside Machu Picchu there are no bathrooms. Cell signal is limited in the citadel, but good in urban areas along the route.
