Detailed Itinerary

Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

Pick-up at 3:30 am from the hotel in Cusco and transfer by tourist bus to the Ollantaytambo train station (1 hour 30 minutes trip). At 6:10 am we board the train to Aguas Calientes, enjoying a panoramic journey of approximately 2 hours. Estimated travel time: 3 hours 30 minutes (Cusco to Aguas Calientes, including bus and train).
Final altitude: 2,000 masl (Aguas Calientes).

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

Reception at the train station by the guide and transfer to the bus station to ascend 400 meters on a 30-minute zigzagging road to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Entrance and ticket control to begin the guided tour of more than 2 hours, visiting main sectors such as the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Main Square, and other emblematic points of the citadel. Estimated tour time: 2 hours guided + free time.
Altitude Machu Picchu: 2,430 masl.

Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

Return by bus to Aguas Calientes and free time for lunch at a restaurant of your choice. In the afternoon, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo (arrive 30 minutes before departure). At Ollantaytambo station, transfer by tourist bus of 1 hour 30 minutes back to Cusco. Approximate arrival time in Cusco: 11:00 pm.

The Machu Picchu Full Day Tour is of easy to moderate difficulty. It includes short walks and stairs inside the citadel. It is suitable for people with normal mobility and no serious medical conditions.
What is the best time to go?
It can be done all year round. The dry season (May–September) offers clearer skies, while the rainy season (December–March) provides greener landscapes but possible rainfall.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Machu Picchu entrance tickets and train tickets are limited. We recommend booking 3–4 weeks in advance, and longer in high season (June–August).
What if it rains during the tour?
The tour is not canceled due to rain. It is recommended to bring a rain poncho or windbreaker/rain jacket and protect personal belongings in waterproof bags. Rain may make stairs more slippery.
Are the tickets included?
Yes, the package includes the Machu Picchu entrance ticket and train and bus transfers as contracted. Entrance to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain is optional and must be reserved and paid separately, subject to availability.
Is the Cusco Tourist Ticket required?
No. For the Machu Picchu Full Day Tour the Cusco Tourist Ticket is not required, as the included ticket is specific to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
Can I rent equipment?
Special equipment is not required for this tour as in long treks. However, trekking poles can be rented for extra comfort, always with rubber tips to avoid damaging the path.
What about my luggage?
It is only recommended to carry a small backpack with essentials for the day (water, sunscreen, camera, etc.). Main luggage can remain at your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
Are there water, bathrooms, and signal during the tour?
In Aguas Calientes and at the Machu Picchu entrance there are bathrooms (extra cost). Inside the citadel there are no toilets. It is recommended to bring a small bottled water and keep your phone charged, though signal is intermittent in some areas.
