Machu Picchu is located at 2,430 meters above sea level.
It is important to acclimatize properly in Cusco (3,400 meters) for at least 2 days before your excursion.
Although Machu Picchu is lower than Cusco, it’s recommended to carry altitude sickness pills and coca leaves for tea in case you need them during the trip.

Machu Picchu is located in the district of Machu Picchu Pueblo (formerly Aguas Calientes), province of Urubamba, Cusco region.
The distance from Cusco to Ollantaytambo (where the train departs) is approximately 1.5 hours by vehicle.
The train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes about 1.5 hours.
From Aguas Calientes you can reach Machu Picchu by bus (25 minutes) or on foot (approx. 1.5 hours).

Tickets are purchased through the official Ministry of Culture website. We recommend buying them at least 3 months in advance, especially for high season (May–September).

3. How much time is needed to visit Machu Picchu?
A typical visit lasts between 2 and 4 hours depending on the selected circuit. If you climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will need an additional 1–2 hours.
